"Singer/songwriter Jan Jaffe takes the stage with guitar in hand and microphone in place. Her solid vocals captivate audiences, who have compared her style to Alanis Morissette, Tracy Bonham, Sarah McLachlan, Dido, and even Joni Mitchell. Whether performed solo, with hand drums or with a full band, Jan's folk rock is spiced with an alternative edge that compliments intimate stories of love, hardship, hope and humor."
"...has a wonderful way of engaging the audience." - Kayla from CWU's Empowerment Center
"Jan Jaffe brought her solo acoustic performance to the Cascade Coffeehouse on April 14, 2007. The first set was primarily her alternative folk material which ranged from heartfelt love ballads to the quirky “Yesser” in which Jan dished out some tongue-in-cheek self deprecation in the face of being cool to her peers. In the second set, Jan switched to a series of very real and autobiographical songs about a young army wife being left home while her husband is away (in Iraq) fighting the war. These were a very revealing look at Jan’s recent experiences and the issues that all military families face, regardless of ideology.
Throughout the performance, [friend] Ryan Edwards painted on a canvas set up at the rear of the stage, just to the side of the singer. He composed a painting, start-to-finish, based on musical inspiration from Jan’s music. This was a novel touch never seen previously at the Cascade Coffeehouse and the patrons were delighted. Meanwhile, Jan’s voice was strong, sensual and tender all at the same time. Her guitar playing supports her voice quite skillfully for such a young performer. As her songwriting grows with her, she’ll go from great to exceptional." - Michael Carlos, musician and venue organizer (www.michaelcarlos.com)
"Her performance rocked! You can tell she truly has a passion to write her own music and share it with others."
