Biography
Hello! My name is Jan Jaffe. I was born and raised in the Wenatchee Valley in Central Washington, my home. I started playing the violin in fourth grade and by the time I was in high school, I was in the orchestra, several choirs, and even played percussion in the band. My first CD I ever purchased with my own money was recommended to me by my older brother - Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill. She has continued to be at the top of my ever- changing favorite artist list. I enjoy a little bit of everything, though I generally have on my playlist a mix of singer/songwriters, modern pop, adult alternative, alt country, standard jazz, local artists, and new world music (especially Celtic). My current winners also include Nellie McKay, Carbon Leaf, James Blunt, Panic! At The Disco, Josh Groban, Martha Wainwright, Tracy Bonham, Sherri Youngward, Snow Patrol, The Darkness, and The Fray, just to name a few. (What a list, huh?) I also have a special place in my heart for Drift Away by Dobie Gray.
I love all things music and had a great time trying (sometimes succeeding, sometimes not) to play every classification of instrument while in college. I graduated in Music Education in 2005 and have been teaching and substitute teaching since. (I have found that a silent classroom is not ideal, but a quiet classroom with some music in the background is!) Though music and family are the main parts of my life, I also enjoy making things (clothing, wall art, meals, websites), hosting poker nights, attending swing dances, and playing board games at coffeeshops.
